Saturday 24th April: just 20 minutes into the match and the scoreboard read Palermo 2 – AC Milan 0!
The boys in pink’n'black were stroking the ball around making football look easy, even against a side with the talent of AC Milan. The final score, much to the delight of the packed stadium, was 3-1 to Palermo, with goals from Bovo, Hernandez and the little genius, Miccoli sealing a historic season’s double over Leonardo’s team. Palermo have also done the double over Juventus and are thoroughly deserving their 5th place in Serie A.
Yes, 5th place… because Sampdoria held onto the 4th spot by beating title-challengers Roma in the Italian capital. Respect!
Sunday 2nd May sees Palermo away to Siena (should be 3 points for the rosanero!) and Sampdoria at home to Livorno (3 points to the Genoans, methinks!). And then, a week later, the 4th place could well be decided as Sampdoria sail down the Tyrrhenian to Sicily for what will be a truly big match for both teams.
The Champions League is at stake and beckons for both clubs…
